For me the best looking would be the 993 (Closely followed by the 964), and worst looking would be 991, I'm sure a lot of people will disagree with me so I'd like to hear your opinion.

964 and 996 are always on the bottom of my list.

991, 930 and classic on the top, 993 and 997 are ordered depending on my mood.

Didn't learn about the 993 until this year because I got into Hot Wheels and the 993 GT2 on my desk is hands down the best looking car on my desk right now. Occasionally the 993 jumps the entire line and it's just awesome.

I might be in the minority, but if I ever have an air cooled 911, it will have a whale tail or at the very least a ducktail. Maybe I've seen too much Top Gear, but an old 911 without a wing is to close to the Beetle in profile for me.

The new 991 GT3 is just plain sex. Those wheels are just so god damn amazing.

Kinja'd!!!

That being said, I hold a special place in my heart for the 993, especially in Turbo guise:

Kinja'd!!!

I also have a soft spot for the rear end on the 997 Turbo pre-refresh. I love those taillights and spoiler. I can't actually decide on a "worst looking" one. Probably the 80's ones with the black bumper parts. There really isn't an ulgy iteration of the 911. I certainly don't hate the 996 like everyone else seems to. The headlights don't bother me much, though they look pretty bad on the Boxter.

I like the really basic form of the OG 901-ish era. The 70's ones are nice as well.

Kinja'd!!!

964 is my favorite iteration, because it combines its roots and 90's tech well. The wheels could be better though.

Kinja'd!!!

Most 90's cars experimented too much with ovals for me. The 996 looked a little off, especially considering the headlights. The form isn't really preserved well either.
Least fav.

It is difficult to disagree with the 996, but there are a few exceptions, imho, such as a silver 2002 targa with clear headlights (no ugly amber signal). I dunno... it works for me... plus it is more within my budget. :)

Just not a fan of the headlights of that gen. The way the bumper lines up with the hood and fenders just looks off to me. Also don't like the tails. I think the rear looks great without one.

Compared to the 964 with the pronounced headlights/fenders, and clean lines between the bumper and rest of the body.

You low down sexy bitch, I wanna lick your rear fender flares, polish your 18 inch rims with my tongue and slide my fingers into your whale tail vents. Suck some air into those twin scrolls baby, grab that leather wrapped knob and try to keep your eyes over the five dials on my dashboard panel. I'm gonna squat down in the back when the throttle bodies crack open and nail you to sixty in 3.8 seconds flat.

Kinja'd!!!

'80s Targa with a whale tail (yeah, I know this is a '70s model, but it's close enough and a good angle). I used to like the slant nose, but over time have come to believe that the upright back of the targa requires the upright headlights for proper aesthetic balance. I do like cookie-cutters over the Fuchs wheels, but any wheel with black center and silver rim looks good to me.

Kinja'd!!!

Widebody 993 a close second place.

964 dead last, with the 996 second to last.

Thank you for thinking the 997.2 is the best. It makes me feel good about how I spent my money.

But I'm curious why you think the 964 is the worst? I don't have one but never thought it was a bad looking car. It's basically a slightly modified version of the car that came before it.

You're welcome. Which model do you own?

Well I don't like the looks of the 3.2 or 964. However, I had to choose one as my worst so I chose the the 964 since that was the first generation that offered the dreadful Tiptronic transmission.

Best: Singer 911.

Kinja'd!!!

Worst: every other 911... which are still not that bad.

Although, probably my least favorite would be a targa and flachtbau... the targa glass and the flat nose give the car a very severely angled look, both too tall in height, and too short in length. The graceful coupe roof, and the horizontal fender line above the headlights all the way back to the rear wheel arches, c-pillar, and tail just flow better.

I have a base C2 6MT.

The Tiptronic was a bummer. Especially as it got older. It was kind of ahead of its time on the 964. I wouldn't be caught dead with a 997.1 with Tiptronic!

That appears to be an 80's car - a 3.2L Carrera turbo-look (note the integrated foglights and the Carrera wing). These were made from 84-89.

Then again, the bodies were nearly identical between 78-89, it's hard to tell the difference.

I prefer the early 70's cars :)

Thank you! I love the car. It's the most reliable car I've ever owned and has the best fit and finish. It has 50,000 miles on it and runs just as strong as day one and the seats aren't even showing any wear. Very rare...

Well I'm glad that you've enjoyed the car and I hope you continue to. Also, I'm glad you're one of the good owners who uses his vehicle.

The most recent Porsches I've had were a 2011 GT3 RS 4.0 and GT2 RS. However, I've also owned a 996 GT2 and 2.7 back in day.

03/07/2014 at 18:12

Thank you, I have got a lot of enjoyment out of it. I definitely think Porsches are meant to be used. They're not garage queens. They are more reliable and less finicky than Italian sports cars so people should take advantage of that. My old man has a couple Ferraris and spends as much time maintaing them as he does driving them.

That is awesome that you used to have all the best 911s!!! A 2.7, GT2 RS and GT3 RS 4.0. Wow!

Kinja'd!!! CAcoalminer > Manuél Ferrari
03/07/2014 at 18:57

Kinja'd!!!1

I definitely agree with that. However, Ferrari has gotten a bit better on reliability especially since the time when I was young man.

Yeah I've been lucky enough in life that I could afford them. I truly loved them, especially the RS 4.0, but am always looking to experience something new and different so I ended up selling them. However, I may end up buying one of them again in the future.

Kinja'd!!! Manuél Ferrari > CAcoalminer
03/07/2014 at 19:53

Kinja'd!!!0

That is definitely true! The new cars are way more reliable. To be fair he's spent most of his time dealing with one recurring issue with the F1 transmission on the F430. The F1 on his 612 has had no issues. And the 612 hasn't had any major niggles. Just minor stuff like phantom TPMS an engine error messages when there are no issues and regular maintenance. The F1 issues on the F430 have taken up the majority of his time.

Did you buy the cars or lease them? I like trying new things too but it's tough to lose both the depreciation and sales tax on an expensive car. The sales tax alone on a $300K car is $24K where I live!

Kinja'd!!! CAcoalminer > Manuél Ferrari
03/07/2014 at 21:40

Kinja'd!!!0

Huh. I didn't realize the F430s had problems with their transmissions. However, I guess they resolved the transmission issues with the 430 Scuderia because two of my friends who own them have never had issues with their cars.

I buy most of my cars but early in my life I did finance from time to time. It is tough to lose depreciation and sales tax but it's something that I've come to accept with the way I shop. Surprisingly, I actually made money on the 4.0 and GT2 RS but of course that had no bearing on why I ever purchased them in the first place.
